Grain conveyor pushes capacity to 15,000 bushel per hour

by

GSI’s VersaLoop chain conveyor has been helping farmers move and store grain for more than a decade, and a new model promises to help growers handle even more grain, faster.

The new 15,000-bushel-per-hour, 14-inch GSI VersaLoop chain conveyor will help farmers speed through harvest with increased capacity, says GSI product manager Shaun Sutton.

In this report from the Farm Progress Show in Decatur, Illinois, Sutton notes that the capacity of GSI’s previous 12-inch model topped out at 10,000 bushels per hour. The new model adds 33 per cent more capacity and includes a number of customizable sections, upload options, and transitions to fit the grain handling needs of a wide range of farm operations.

Sutton says VersaLoop is capable of longer unsupported free spans than traditional chain-and-flight conveyors and can eliminate the need for support structures such as catwalks or towers.

Berner Tobin. At the Farm Progress Show. Today I am over at GSI catching up with Shaun Sutton. Shaun, how's it going? It's a wonderful day. The weather couldn't be better. I want to talk about the Versa loop chain conveyor. It's been in the GSI lineup now for about 10 years. Tell me how it works. So this particular model is really meant for good on farm applications. This is set up for a pit conveyor. Essentially what it is is the grain will come in directly off to the truck into the hopper. It will go through the bend. This can either go directly into an elevator and then up and be distributed to your bins. Or this can go directly onto or into your bin. This will go all the way to the peak of your bin. So where does it fit for farmers? I mean, obviously in different operations. So this particular conveyor, it's really meant for seasonal usage. This is great for pit applications. It's great for going from the peak to peak of one bin to the next. It's also good for medium, medium to short runs throughout your facility, depending on what you're doing. And it's just, it's just a very good, versatile piece of equipment. Now here today at the Fire in Progress show, you've got a new 14 inch model. Tell us about that. Yep. So our 14 inch model is. It's just essentially a much larger version of what our 12s were. So the, the 12 inch capacity was around 10,000 bushel an hour. This, we're running at 15,000 bushel an hour. So this is just a much bigger upgrade to your system. Compared to what, the 12 inches? Now, why would a farmer be looking at this larger upgrade? Well, I mean, you can never have too much capacity, right? I've never heard a, heard a farmer come back and say, oh, my grain leg was too big or my chain conveyor was too big. Realistically, you want to be able to unload your trucks and get them, get the grain from your truck to the bin as quickly as possible with as little of downtime as possible. Great stuff. Shaun, what about availability? When can farmers put in their orders? Oh, that's great. I mean, you can put in your order right now, we have shipped some of these models already. We will be building inventory of these so that you can order them directly off of our shelves. The great thing about these is, is they're, they're quite easy to extend. They are very modular so that we can build inventory, we can stock inventory, and that you can buy as needed in whatever configuration you need it in. Great stuff, Shaun.
